All products are manufactured exclusively in FDA registered facilities located in the United States.
The enzymes in our products are sourced from North America, Europe and Japan.
We attempt to source all herbal ingredients domestically. When a U.S. source is not available, our secondary choices are Canada, Europe and Japan. However, some are only available from China and India. In most cases, it is the only location the ingredient is grown. Regardless of origin, each ingredient used in Loomis Enzymes products is tested by an independent U.S. laboratory to verify identity and that it is free of contaminants. All ingredients used must be below the limits set by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for pesticide, microbial pathogen and heavy metal (lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury) contamination.
Loomis Enzymes has formulated, manufactured, and validated our enzyme ingredients using the units of activity prescribed in the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) Food Chemicals Codex (FCC). According to the USP FCC, enzyme potency should be measured by specific activity units. Amylase measured in DU, Protease measured in HUT, Cellulase in CU, and so on.
Loomis Enzymes does not disclose the enzyme activity on our product labels. We do this for various reasons, foremost being that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require it. Current regulations allow for labeling enzymes without activity when part of a proprietary blend. We consider our blends proprietary, and we label them as such. On our products, the enzymes are listed in a blend by their cumulative weight, in descending order, without units of activity.
Loomis Enzymes has always insisted on only the finest fungal, microbial, and animal enzymes sourced in the units specified in the FCC. We partner with only the best manufacturers who have been certified by NSF International (The Public Health and Safety Organization) for cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) compliance. With each product produced, our onsite Quality Control & Quality Assurance team, partnered with world class analytical laboratories, verify that our specifications are being met or exceeded. We are confident that our products are the best available.

There are always additional benefits when using the whole plant instead of chemical derivatives, as you will find in highly concentrated vitamin and mineral supplements. The synergistic action that takes place with the whole herb energized with the action of enzymes is remarkable. The herbs used are biologically stable and proven effective.
Dr. Howard F. Loomis, Jr. has developed specific, scientific ways of determining how well a patient is digesting proteins, carbohydrates and fats. He has formulated digestive enzymes to meet the specific nutritional need of the patient, taking into consideration how well the patient digests food, as well as looking at the patients' diet to see if there is an excess or deficiency of a particular food group and adjusting the diet accordingly. Digestive supplements offered by Loomis Enzymes®, if suggested by a knowledgeable practitioner, are extremely effective because they are weighted to digest proteins, carbohydrates, and/or fats, depending on specific nutritional needs.
Acidophilus microorganisms produce lactic acid by digesting sugars and starches. This digestion produces an acid pH, which is needed in the bowel. Acidophilus microorganisms do not have any effect on the pre-digestion or digestion of food and only work in the large intestine.
No. By supplementing with food enzymes you are helping to replace enzymes lost during the cooking or processing of food. This relieves the body of the burden to create more digestive enzymes. The body then is able to produce the required enzymes for other vital bodily functions.
Food enzymes are destroyed by heat at temperatures of 118 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Canning, pasteurization, and microwaving all destroy enzymes in food, thus increasing the body's demand for enzymes when digesting processed or cooked foods.
Contrary to popular medical opinion, enzymes are not destroyed in the stomach. Hydrochloric Acid does not digest enzymes; it's only function is to activate the enzymes which require an acid environment, such as pepsinogen (pepsin).

The trademark, pHBS®, describes Dr. Loomis' formulas. The formulas have been developed in a clinical setting and are based on years of clinical observation, not just library information. Dr. Loomis' formulas have been researched using not only a case history, but physical and laboratory tests as well.
In most cases, products are considered stable at full potency for two years from the date of manufacture. Formulas which contain Probiotics are generally stable for one year past the date of manufacture. Store the bottle in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed and away from children. Enzymes will activate within the capsule if exposed to moisture and warm temperatures. Also, exposure of enzyme supplements to electromagnetic fields or X-ray machines (such as found in airport terminals) may reduce enzyme activity.
HCl, in supplemental form, is actually a salt that is commonly used in prescription and over-the-counter drugs as an ingredient carrier. True hydrochloric acid is produced by the body to provide an acid environment for the activation of pepsinogen into pepsin. Pepsin is what breaks protein apart into smaller fragments. True hydrochloric acid is not available as a supplement.
All of the whole foods and herbs used in Loomis Enzymes® products are non-GMO.
We always prefer organic sources; however some herbs and whole foods are simply not available in an organic variety.
Our products are not kosher. If you would like to see our products kosher certified, please call 800-614-4400 and let us know.
Products free of animal-sourced ingredients use HPMC capsules. HPMC is also known as Hypromellose or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. It is a plant source polymer extracted from cellulose fiber and has GRAS status. HPMC is preservative-free, starch-free, gluten-free, non-GMO certified, Kosher certified, Vegetarian certified, and manufactured without gelling agents. Products that do contain an animal-sourced ingredient, such as FARS-P™, use a traditional animal-sourced gelatin capsule.
Our products contain natural ingredients such as whole herbs: therefore, colors, textures and weight may vary due to different seasonal and environmental conditions. This color variation is no different than the color variations you see in fruits and vegetables at the grocery store.
Some of our supplements are formulated to be taken at the beginning of the meal to aid the body in its digestive processes. Others are meant to be taken after or between meals. Refer to the product label or catalog description for more information.
As you are a unique individual, results will vary from what others may experience. Most people notice a difference in digestive disturbances and symptoms within a few days, if not within a few meals.
By eating 5 to 6 times per day, you are probably eating small meals and only one capsule may be needed.
Perhaps. Although there are enzymes in raw foods, there is only enough to break down and digest that particular raw food. At times the body needs more help than what the raw food can provide. Additional supplementation with digestive enzymes can give the body that support.
It may be a good idea, especially if you are snacking on processed foods. Processed foods have little to no enzyme content. Eating a snack high in carbohydrates or white sugar may be just the time to take an enzyme supplement.
Yes, taking an enzyme supplement at the beginning of the meal is the most effective use of the supplement; however, taking our enzyme supplements during or after the meal will still assist in the digestive process.
Regulating what you eat and making wise food choices is suggested. Consult your practitioner if a larger than normal meal is being consumed.

Yes, before they eat, just give them the capsule as you would any other supplement or open the capsule and put its contents on their food.
Our products are not intended for children less than 4 years of age except when approved by your doctor.
The directions for use are unique for each product and are located on the product label. The directions are not based on age, weight, or gender of the individual. Our products are recommended when there is an indication of need based on a case history, hands on examination and laboratory tests. They are not intended for general over the counter use.
Yes, however taking more than 3 or 4 products at a time should never be necessary.
If you are recommending a digestive product, Natural Enzymes Total Digestion™ is a berry flavored chewable tablet. For other products, it is suggested that you open the capsules and mix with water or another clear liquid. Use of a medicine spoon or eye dropper may be helpful.
Most people will not have any difficulties associated with the use of products derived from fungus. Technology has developed purification techniques that remove all but the desired end product: enzymes. However, there may be a few very sensitive individuals who may experience symptoms that they associate with exposure to mushrooms, mold, or yeast. For those concerned about yeast, Invertase is produced on Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a type of yeast. However, the purification process of this particular enzyme extracts all yeast residues.
The majority of Loomis Enzymes products do not contain milk, soy, or gluten. If an ingredient is sourced from milk, soy, or gluten it will be indicated in the supplement facts panel of the label.
Yes, there are Loomis Enzymes products that contain animal products, however, the majority of products do not. Please see the product page and label for information on allergens, ingredients and their sources.
When taking a prescription medication, consult your physician or healthcare provider prior to taking our products. Food enzyme supplements should not be taken at the same time as prescription medications. If the prescription medication is taken at the same time as the enzyme supplement, the absorption of the prescription may increase, thus requiring a change in dosage of your prescription medication under your prescribing doctor's guidance. Please contact us for more information.
